TA Practitioner Certification

Transactional Analysis Practitioner (TAP) Certificate –

(52 hours minimum)

This certificate provides those with prior qualifications in a humanities-based occupation to incorporate TA knowledge and skills in their current practice.

Prerequisite:

  • Qualification to at least a Certificate IV level in a commensurate humanities-based area e.g., psychology, social work, nursing, mediation, youth work, teaching.*

Summary of course requirements:

  • Completion of TA 101 course (12 hours)
  • Learning contract with an accredited ATAA trainer or supervisor
  • Completion of a logbook authenticated by an accredited ATAA trainer or supervisor
  • 5 hours of supervision about using TA by an accredited ATAA trainer or supervisor
  • Successful completion of additional TA 202 modules (36 hours minimum)
  • Completion of a 1000-2500-word essay on TA
  • Agreement with the ATAA Code of Ethics
  • Application for ATAA trainee membership ($75.00) and payment for processing of the TAP Certificate ($75.00).

Advanced Transactional Analysis Practitioner (ATAP) Certificate

Prerequisite:

  • TAP Certificate OR
  • Concurrent enrolment in the TAP Certificate. In these cases, both certificates – TAP and ATAP – shall be granted at the same time when the ATAP is completed.

Summary of course requirements:

  • Learning contract with an accredited ATAA trainer or supervisor
  • Completion of a logbook authenticated by an accredited ATAA trainer or supervisor
  • 1 year of supervision (of not less than 40 hours) in the application of TA by an accredited ATAA trainer or supervisor
  • Completion of a 1500 to 2500-word essay outlining the way in which they have used TA in their practice. The essay shall contain a small case study that includes application of theory, selection of diagnosis (counselling and psychotherapy) /selection of process (educational and organizational) and an outline of the way that TA was used.
  • Agreement with the ATAA Code of Ethics
  • Application for ATAA trainee membership and payment for processing of the ATAP Certificate ($100.00).

*Important note:

  • Those who have prior qualifications in a commensurate area (see above) are entitled to take out the TAP as soon as the requirements have been fulfilled.
  • Those without prior qualifications in a commensurate area (see above), may simultaneously contract for both TAP and ATAP but shall not be granted either certificate until the completion of both sets of training. In these cases, these certificates shall be granted at the same time.
